Well, I just finished my first week at work and it was interesting. So originally we were scheduled to be at orientation (both at the training centers and in the ED) for 8 hours each day this last week. Through a series of miscommunications, poor planing/organizing, and simple confusions, we (the 6 of us in the ED fellowship) ended up being off on Monday (after we drove to the training center), only 4 hours Tuesday morning, only 4 hours Wednesday afternoon, 12 hours on Thrusday and 8 today. We lost 8 hours of our time, but I did find out that I will have 40 hours (36 is full-time for us) for at least the next 3 weeks.
The other girls in the fellowship with me seem really great. We have 2 from UVA, 2 from NOVA, and 1 from Radford. All of us are new graduate nurses. We've already clicked with eachother and I think it will be great spending at least the next 2 and half years together (the length of our contracts). Our cooridnator said she hoped to give us our Preceptors by the end of next week. I'm really looking forward to this, this person will be my teacher for the next 6 months. I will be working closely with him/her and they will help shape me and my nursing practice. So it makes me a little nervous too. So I'm asking all of you to join with me in prayer for whomever my Preceptor will me.
Oh there is a tiny bit of bad news (well, bad depending on who you ask). Out of safety and kind-of paying my dues, we fellows aren't allowed to take Trauma's until about our 4th month. :-( I'll have to hold my breathe and drool everytime they announce a Code Yellow/Code Blue until then.
I've got the house to myself for the next week. The family is down in Williamsburg on vacation....although I have my brother's dog here, and that's almost like a full house. Hope everyone is doing well.
