Memoirs of a Geisha

Sorry it's been so long since I last posted, nothing has inspired me until now. Saturday I went to see Memoirs of a Geisha. First, I have to say that it was a moving story.

But what I really want to write about is how tastefully it was made. A story about girls pleasing men, romance and sex scenes, but it was only rated PG-13, and rightfully so. Unlike so many others that areappalling and rated the same. There were multiple scenes throughout the movie where females breast could have been shown, or how the sex scenes could have been a lot more explicit. Instead, this movie was made so as the message of the storyline was related without all the distractions of the sinful nature of our society. This movie proved that romance and sex can be portrayed tastefully in our movie theatres without polluting our eyes.

Now, I'll step off of m soap box and talk about the beauty in the artistry of this story. The costumes, makeup, lights, and of course interprative dance (fans, umbrellas, etc).....WOW!!! During the main performance of the lead, I was on the edge of my seat holding my breathe. I was in such awe at this beautiful interpretation. It brought tears to my eyes to see this young girl perform the greatest performance of her life as a Geisha.

In short (or long), I highly recommend this movie to you. The message of hope and the perseverence of love, as well as the artistic, tasteful, and beautiful interpretation is well worth seeing. Anyone else seen it?

I'm dying to see it and now will definitely go. I absolutely love the artistry of movies like that...can't wait to see it! Oh, and thanks so much for the heads up about the lack of gratutitous (sp?)sex scenes, that really helps to know!

good movie and definitely very pretty. If you liked the story, you should check out the book... it gives a much more detailed account of everything seen in the movie

Anne stole my comment! I, too, loved the movie. I thought it was very tastefully and beautifully done. And it stayed very close to the book...though (of course) it left a lot out. The book it fantastic. I couldn't put it down. It's a good read. And just as moving as the movie. In my opinion. :)

I almost never say I like a movie better than the book - but "Geisha" actually was so beautifully done that I don't think my mind could have conjured that up by simply reading it (although it WAS a good book!). A very satisfying and well-done movie!

I just got to see Memoirs of a Geisha on Thursday. It's fantastic! I second Karin's opinion about the movie. Loved the book, but the film captured the environment and beauty in a way I hadn't imagined. It really brought home the point that Geisha were considered to be living works of art - all of their movements, actions, dress, etc etc were seen as ART. Amazing. (sad too, but amazing) I loved it!
